» Let us hear from you. If you have a question, we'll try to answer it for you.

Q: I am at a loss to understand the "OLD #9" concept. Perhaps you could enlighten me. Old #9 refers to a road. It was the original number for the road from San Antonio to San Angelo and beyond. It went through Boerne and Comfort to Fredericksburg, but not Kerrville. There is no association with #9 and the railroad that I know of. The original SA & AP train numbers were #1 and #2. Under the SP, they were #212 and #213. The SP locomotive numbering system precludes the possibility of any engine on this line being #9. Yet the promotion of "Friends of Old #9" seems to be all about the railroad and nothing about the road which is where the name comes from.

A: The focus of the group is expansion of the Old #9 Greenway, regional trails and transportation history. We are heavy on railroads currently but will add substantial information about S.H. 9 and trails - the Camino Pinta, Camino Viejo, Boerne Stage Road, Lower Immigrant Road, Military Trails, Great Western Cattle Trail, OST, local/county/state/federal roadways and much more to round out the project. You may already know this, SA&AP engine #9 was the E.P. Swenson, one of the financial backers of Uriah Lott, engine #10 was the Dr. Herff, the primary local railroad advocate for Boerne.
