Friends of Old No. 9 is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of railroad and transportation history of Kendall County, Texas and the surrounding region. The Friends achieve this through:

• Preservation of railroad transportation equipment, locomotives, rolling stock, photographs, video, literature and memorabilia.
• Creation and maintenance of an historical archive and collection, including interpretive displays and exhibits
• Education relating to railroad transportation safety, history and involvement in past, present and possible future public transportation.
• Interpretation of railroad transportation history and impact on the growth and development of the nation and area.
• Promotion and support of rails to trails programs with related development of adjacent and connecting greenways and open space.
